{"id":52,"date":"2023-12-21T23:00:17","date_gmt":"2023-12-21T23:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yzaz.net\/irsec18\/?page_id=52"},"modified":"2023-12-21T23:00:17","modified_gmt":"2023-12-21T23:00:17","slug":"workshop1","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/yzaz.net\/irsec18\/workshop1\/","title":{"rendered":"Workshop1"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Challenges and opportunities in the electronic properties of two-dimensional materials: when theory meets experiment<\/h3>\n<p>No doubt that Graphene sparked a flurry of studies on two-dimensional (2D) materials, which are gathering a fast increasing interest from a wide scientific community. These 2D materials are not only bringing tremendous and fascinating new functionalities but at times, they may challenge our deep understanding of materials. In just a couple of decades, significant contributions have been made to the understanding and applications of 2D materials. The aim of this workshop is to gather international renowned scientists working on 2D materials and devices, both theorists and experimentalists to promote collaborations and tackle specific challenges for this vibrant field. The workshop focuses on fundamental understanding and relevant scientific advances in the theoretical and experimental aspects of two-dimensional (2D) materials for the realization of devices with a variety of functionalities. We will discuss various approaches for tuning the electronic properties of 2D compounds and present predictive simulations and modeling through layer thickness, strain engineering and doping for the fabrication of atomic-scale mono and few layers van der Waals devices with controllable mechanical, electrical and optical properties that can be stable, flexible, and transparent for several applications such as photovoltaics, light emitting diodes and gas sensor, to name a few.
