Ismail Belhaj
R&D and Industrial Integration Analyst, MASEN
Morocco

Mr. Ismail Belhaj is an R&D and Industrial Integration Analyst in the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (Masen), where he is in charge of research in “meteorology for energy” in general and “solar forecasting” in particular. He has a good experience in forecasting GHI (Global Horizontal Irradiance) and DNI (Direct Normal Irradiance) using statistical methods, artificial intelligence and Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models. His recent research activities include solar forecasting for dispatch and studying the WRF (Weather Research Forecasting) model forecasts and their accuracy.
Mr. Belhaj’s main research interest include two aspects: technical aspect and decision policy aspect. The first aspect includes renewable and sustainable energies, modeling and forecasting. The second aspect concerns how forecasting energy affects making decisions in the energy policy. Mr. BELHAJ participated in several conferences, workshops and trainings including: the first International Deep Learning, Big Data and Big Compute Camp (2011) animated by NVIDIA and Leeds University, the International Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conference (IRSEC2014), the Solar Energy Training 2014 in Mines ParisTech and the Autumn Academy on Sustainability and Resource Security in the EU and MENA Region at the European Academy Otzenhausen (EAO) in Germany in 2018.
Mr. Belhaj is an ERASMUS+ Alumni and benefited from a research mobility to the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) in which he conducted scientific research in the Laboratory of Atmospheric Physics (LAP) for a period of five months. Mr. BELHAJ is also a peer-reviewer of the Sustainable Cities and Society Journal and the International Journal of Renewable Energy Research.
